Hurumanu - Dirty Water experiment

Hello everyone today we are doing a science experiment about filtering dirty water using "Water Filtration Plant".

Hurumanu - Dirty Water experiment

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1. oil
  2. cleaning
  3.  kettle
  4. heat

Materials

1.Filter paper
2.Funnel
3.Sand
4.Water bottle
5.Scissor
6.Pibbles
7.Dirty water

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle in a half

Step 2

Put the top half upside down to make a funnel/water filter. Get the filtering paper and fold it to make a cone

STEP 3

Add layers of sand and pebbles and put it into the filtering paper cone

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water

STEP 5

Pour the dirty water into the funnel/ water filter

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.
Drops per minute:    98                            73                   57                  46                      26
Watercolour:       All clear brown
Conclusion: Today I and JV learned how to filter dirty water using homemade water filtration. The first thing we did id putting the water to the filtration and then the water is slowly filtered by the filtration. It goes on pebbles first and the bark and the dirt on the water are separating out in the water. Second, it goes on the sand here is the satisfying part begin, the small dirt and the small bark is getting separate out on the water. We're finding out how many drops per minute and what is the colour of the filtered water. We've found out  that our homemade water filtration drops 73 drops per minute and the colour is clear brown.
