I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.
Each of the other characters on the run has a tragic background story. Why were Hayden, Roland, and Mai set to be unwound? Which do you think is the most tragic?
Roland was unwound because he beat up his stepfather, Mai got unwind because her parents wanted a little boy, and Hayden, he was unwound due to the fact that his parents often fought and eventually got divorced. In my opinion, the worst background story is Mai because just because she’s a girl her parents don’t want her, it’s like they don’t treasure their kids and didn’t accept her just because she’s a girl.
What makes Lev realize he doesn’t want to be unwound?
Pastor Dan told him the truth, that he does not unwind. He told Lev's parents that Lev is tithe and got kidnapped. Pastor Dan never told the police that he is unwind.
Connor is concerned the baby won’t be loved, and ultimately will die, so he takes it. What does this show us about him as a person?
Connor showed empathy to the little baby, he doesn’t want the baby growing with being unloved and lost.
In your opinion, by allowing new mothers to give up their children so readily, does it take away the value of a child?
NO, it doesn’t because the child still has a lot of potentials to grow and be a successful person in the future.
In the 1970s Bob Geldof was a singer in the Broomtown Rats. He was famous for songs like "I Don't Like Mondays" and "Rat Trap". Bob Geldof was involved in a spontaneous event that includes many of the best-known pop singers and writers invited. In the 1985 he was one of the main organizers of the event Live Aid Concert at Wembley.
Midge Ure
Midge Ure was a Scottish singer that was involved in several bands, he was the frontman of Ultravox. Together with Bob Geldof, they wrote the song "They Don't Know It's Christmas" and assembled an all-star band of British musicians. The song sold millions of copies over 1984, he prompted Bob Geldof to organize the concert; Live Aid in 1985.
Bob Geldof and Midge Ure wrote the song 'They Don't Know It's Christmas' The track, which was first released on25 November 1984, was written byBoomtown RatsfrontmanBob Geldof andUltravoxguitaristMidge Ureas a reaction to the shocking television reports of the 1983-85 Ethiopian famine.
Created with the sole purpose of raising funds for the people of Ethiopia, the track featured cameos from famous pop faces- with everyone from Bono to Boy George taking part. After achieving a Christmas number one that year, the track went on to be the fastest-selling single in UK history
Here is the full lyrics of the song:
It's Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time
But say a prayer, Pray for the other ones At Christmas time it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring There are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Where nothing ever grows No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
Here's to you Raise a glass for everyone
Spare a thought this yuletide for the deprived If the table was turned would you survive
Here's to them Underneath that burning sun
You ain't gotta feel guilt just selfless Give a little help to the helpless
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again Feed the world Let them know it's Christmas time again Let them know it's Christmas time again
Feed the world
Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world Feed the world
Feed the world (Feed the world) Feed the world Feed the world
Kamusta everyone today in Science we were talking about Acid Rain, and we did an experiment similar to acid rain but in a small version.
Acid Rain Pathway
Acid rainis caused by a chemical reaction that begins when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. These substances can rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form moreacidicpollutants, known asacid rain.
Acid Rain Experiment
Aim:To observe effects of Acid Rain
Hypothesis: I think it will affect everything around its area
Method: In a petri dish place items around the edge. Wet dry ingredient with a drop of water. In the middle put a boat. Add a spatula of sodium sulfate to weigh boat and 5 drops of sulfuric acid. Quickly close the lid.
The universal indicator turned into red, the bromothymol blue went yellow, the flower loses its color a little bit same as the apple, nothing happened to the calcium carbonate tho. It all happened because of the reaction of sodium sulfate and sulfuric acid. The calcium carbonate supposedly bubbles a bit, but we might did something wrong that's why it didn't bubble.
Good morning, good evening, good noon bloggers today in English Mr tasked as to write a 100 Word Challenge about Stracey and Room 12. So here's my writing enjoy.
Stracey had always wondered why no one ever went into Room 12. Now, she knew, dead silence was very loud when entering the room, it was pitch dark, shattered glasses were covering the floor, spider webs all around the room, cabinets, lights, tables, and chairs. When stepping in the room, it gives you a curse that will destroy your joyful life! The curse is very creepy and dangerous nobody ever risked their life to enter the room. The curse triggers when you touch someone, they only have 1 more day to live and they’d be sent to a devil's dimension.
Kia Ora bloggers, this blog is supposed to be posted 2/3 weeks ago, but I wasn't at school during the times my class was looking and studying this topic. Today is the only day I had a chance to blog about this topic; Parihaka. Bare with me as I don't know much about the topic.
The song tells usthe story of the Taranaki Parihaka peaceful protests. Finn was given a book on the topic (Dick Scott's Ask That Mountain) by his sister and told to write a song about it.
The line that expresses their passive resistance method is "Te Whiti he used the language of the spirit, Then stood accused, the madman and his dream, He saw the train go roaring through the tunnel, He heard the voice travel on the magic wire, But he loved the silence of the river,"
You can't pull out the roots means that the soldiers can't get rid of the crops that Parihaka grew during their passive resistance movement.
It shows significance because it was a story that was untold and hidden for years and it took the government over 100 years later for an apology. The raukura, the single white albatross feather was worn by Te Whiti and Tohu's followers symbolize peace.
The event was significant because Te Whiti and Tohu's aims were to resist the invasion of their land and to protect Māori independence. They drew on both Māori and Christian teachings and advocated good relationships between all races as long as Māori ownership and independence were respected.
Te Whiti and Tohu were arrested and jailed for 16 months, 1,600 Parihaka inhabitants were expelled and dispersed throughout Taranaki without food or shelter and the remaining 600 residents were issued with government passes to control their movement.
Here is the full lyrics of Parihaka by Tim Finn;
My friend, My friend, I hate to see you suffer,
Events conspire to bring us to our knees,
My friend, my friend, you've taken this the wrong way,
Rise up, defend yourself, never give in,
Look to the sky, the spirit of Te Whiti,
The endless tide is murmuring his name.
I know Te Whiti will never be defeated,
And even at the darkest hour,
His presence will remain.
I'll sing to you the song of Parihaka.
Te Whiti he used the language of the spirit,
Then stood accused, the madman and his dream,
He saw the train go roaring through the tunnel,
He heard the voice travel on the magic wire,
But he loved the silence of the river,
He watched the dog piss on the cannon's wheel.
I know Te Whiti will never be defeated,
And even at the darkest hour,
His presence will remain.
I'll sing to you the song of Parihaka.
One day you'll know the truth,
They can't pull out the roots,
Come and take me home,
To weep for my lost brother.
They gather still, the clouds of Taranaki,
His children's children wearing the white plume,
So take me for the sins of these sad islands,
The wave still breaks on the rock of Rouhotu.
And when you taste the salt that's on your pudding,
Hundreds of celebrations in the Philippines but my favourite is Pintaflores it is because my family cook good foods during the celebration day like, biko, ginataan, fried chicken, bulad, halo-halo (a dessert), buko juice, kaldereta, lechon and many more side dishes. They sometimes give us money as well between 1000 - 2000 pesos which is equivalent to $35 - $70, having that much money in the province of the Philippines will get you a lot.
Seeing the colorful costumes that are worn by the performers always gives me joyful vibes or presence. Pintaflores festival is an annual event that is held in the beautiful city of San Carlos, in Negros Occidental. The festival is marked every 5th of November.
The festival’s name is unique, one that piques the interest of many a traveler. This name is a derivation of the Spanish word ‘pinta’ which loosely translates to tattoos and ‘flores’ which means flowers. This festival, in essence, is all about a fusion of arts and nature, making for a very interesting theme.
I once competed in the festival but I wasn’t the dancer, I didn’t get chosen to be the dancer because I can’t dance but the judge picked me to be a props man. Props men are the one who carries the props at the back (look at the picture above). Props are always plants-kinda, flowers, trees, and symbols. We work and practice hard day and night but sadly our team only achieved the place 3rd.
Kia ora bloggers this past two days in Social Studies we were learning about the Vietnam war, and songs that were written by the artist that played in Woodstock. These songs were written because many people around the world are against the war.
There are lots of songs to choose from but I choose the song "Give Peace a Chance". This song is an antiwar song, and it was written by John Lennon. In my understanding, he is saying that the Vietnam war should stop and spread peace, and not war because everybody is against it. Everybody is talking about a lot of stuff but the only thing that he and many people wanted to be heard is to give peace a chance and stop the war.
All we are saying is give peace a chance All we are saying is give peace a chance
C'mon Ev'rybody's talking about Ministers Sinisters, Banisters and canisters Bishops and Fishops and Rabbis and Pop eyes And bye bye, bye byes
All we are saying is give peace a chance All we are saying is give peace a chance
Let me tell you now Ev'rybody's talking about Revolution, evolution, masturbation Flagellation, regulation, integrations Meditations, United Nations Congratulations
All we are saying is give peace a chance All we are saying is give peace a chance
Ev'rybody's talking about John and Yoko, Timmy Leary, Rosemary Tommy Smothers, Bobby Dylan, Tommy Cooper Derek Taylor, Norman Mailer Alan Ginsberg, Hare Krishna Hare, Hare Krishna
All we are saying is give peace a chance All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance All we are saying is give peace a chance
Kia ora everyone this past few lessons on science we were studying about the periodic table, elements, atoms, chemical and physical change, electrons, balancing symbol equations, mixture, and compounds, and chemical word equations. We also played Element Bingo.
The periodic table shows us all the elements and their physical properties, it is arranged base on atomic number and electron configuration.
Alkaline Metals
Alkaline Earth Metals
The alkaline earth metals are six chemical elements in group 2 of the periodic table. They are beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium. The elements have very similar properties: they are all shiny, silvery-white, somewhat reactive metals at standard temperature and pressure. They react to everything because their outer shell is unstable which means it only has 1 electron. Having 1 electron is easier to get rid of it rather than gaining 7 more, so it reacts to everything
Alkaline Metal Experiment
We also did an experiment about alkaline metals, but we only use Lithium (Li) and Sodium (Na). Ms put the Lithium onto the water and it bounces very fast which causes it to levitate while levitating there was smoke coming from the lithium, due to the reaction of the chemical and water. The lithium slowly dissolves (base on what I think) and shrank to the bottom of the container and started to dye the water, purple.
The second one we did was Sodium (Na), this one was pretty entertaining and cool. Sodium is very reactive, it reacts to everything that's why it is covered with oil and put into a jar. It is a very soft metal so Ms just cut a small piece of it for the experiment. Same as what she did with the lithium, Ms put the sodium onto the water and it reacts as if it was lithium but our teacher told us that this isn't how it is gonna react to water. So she took a big piece of sodium and sliced off the sides that are covered with oil, she was left with a small piece of pure sodium the size of a peanut. She put it onto the water and a few seconds later, KABOOM! it exploded and smoke and small sparks of fire spread in the science room.
Don't worry we're safe because there was this glass shield that was put in the front of the container to prevent us from getting harm, poor tables tho they got burnt marks from the fire and sparks.
Kamusta bloggers, today in PE, we were tasked to research the sport; basketball, because it's what we have been doing this past few weeks. We're gonna research the, history and rules.
Basketball was invented by James Naismith on or about December 1, 1891, at the International Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Training School, Springfield, Massachusetts, where Naismith was an instructor in physical education. Basketball is the only major sport strictly of U.S. origin (although Naismith was born in Canada).
Rules for the offense
The basketball team on offense is the team with the basketball. When a player has the basketball there are certain rules they must follow:
1) The player must bounce, or dribble, the ball with one hand while moving both feet. If, at any time, both hands touch the ball or the player stops dribbling, the player must only move one foot. The foot that is stationary is called the pivot foot.
2) The basketball player can only take one turn at dribbling. In other words, once a player has stopped dribbling they cannot start another dribble. A player who starts dribbling again is called for a double-dribbling violation and looses the basketball to the other team. A player can only start another dribble after another player from either team touches or gains control of the basketball. This is usually after a shot or pass.
3) The ball must stay in bounds. If the offensive team looses the ball out of bounds the other team gets control of the basketball.
4) The players hand must be on top of the ball while dribbling. If they touch the bottom of the basketball while dribbling and continue to dribble this is called carrying the ball and the player will lose the ball to the other team.
5) Once the offensive team crosses half court, they may not go back into the backcourt. This is called a backcourt violation. If the defensive team knocks the ball into the backcourt, then the offensive team can recover the ball legally.
Defensive Rules
The team on defense is the team without the basketball.
1) The main rule for the defensive player is not to foul. A foul is described as gaining an unfair advantage through physical contact. There is some interpretation that has to be made by the referee, but, in general, the defensive player may not touch the offensive player in a way that causes the offensive player to lose the ball or miss a shot.
Rules for everyone
1) Although the foul rule is described above as a defensive rule, it applies exactly the same to all players on the court including offensive players.
2) Basketball players cannot kick the ball or hit it with their fist.
3) No player can touch the basketball while it is traveling downward towards the basket or if it is on the rim. This is called goaltending. (touching the ball on the rim is legal in some games).
Every player on the court is subject to the same rules regardless of the position they play. The positions in basketball are just for team basketball strategy and there are no positions in the rules. Basketball Court
Growth of Basketball Basketball grew steadily but slowly in popularity and importance in the United States and internationally in the first three decades after World War II. Interest in the game deepened as a result of television exposure, but with the advent of cable television, especially during the 1980s, the game’s popularity exploded at all levels. Given a timely mix of spectacular players such as Earvin Johnson, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan—and the greatly increased exposure, basketball moved quickly to the forefront of the American sporting scene, alongside such traditional leaders as baseball and football. Four areas of the game developed during this period: U.S. high school and college basketball, professional basketball, women’s basketball, and international basketball.
Kia ora everyone today in ESOL, we were tasked to write a paragraph with a minimum of 150 words about the word RESPECT, and what is our point of view and understanding about the word. Here's my theory with approximately 230 words.
Respect
Respect has great importance in everyday life. As children, we are taught to respect our parents, teachers, and elders, school rules and traffic laws, family and cultural traditions, other people's feelings and rights, our country's flag and leaders, the truth, and people's differing opinions. And we come to value respect for such things; when we're older, we may shake our heads (or fists) at people who seem not to have learned to respect them. We develop a great respect for people we consider exemplary and lose respect for those we discover to be clay-footed, and so we may try to respect only those who are truly worthy of our respect. We may also come to believe that, at some level, all people are worthy of respect.
We may learn that jobs and relationships become unbearable if we receive no respect in them; in certain social milieus we may learn the price of disrespect if we violate the street law: “Diss me, and you die.” Calls to respect this or that are increasingly part of public life: environmentalists exhort us to respect nature, foes of abortion and capital punishment insist on respect for human life, members of racial and ethnic minorities and those discriminated against because of their gender, sexual orientation, age, religious beliefs, or economic status demand respect both as social and moral equals and for their cultural differences.
Kia ora bloggers, this past few lessons on Social Studies we were studying about the ANZAC and Turkish war in Gallipoli. We also made a map about it just like the American Slave Trade. (Check out my other post to see American Slave Trade.
You will hear this song every 25th of April every year, which is ANZAC Day. The Last Post song is thebugle call that signifies the end of the day's activities. It is also sounded at military funerals to indicate that the soldier has gone to his final rest and at commemorative services such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
A man playing The Last Post in front of the soldiers.
The last post was first played and published in the 1790s, the Last Post was one of many bugle calls used by the British army. These calls were used to help soldiers keep track of time when living in encampments. The last post isoriginated with British troops stationed in the Netherlands, where it drew on an older Dutch custom, called taptoe, from which comes the term tattoo as in Military tattoo. The taptoe was also used to signal the end of the day but originated from a signal that beer taps had to be shut, hence that the day had ended.
Anzac Day - Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served
