Testing Food Nutrients

Testing Food Nutrients

Aim: What nutrients are present in different foods

Hypothesis: I think bread will be complex sugar, I think the egg will protein, I think the glucose (sugar, lolly) will be simple sugar, I think the apple will be complex sugar, I think the milk will be protein and I think the potato will be a complex sugar.

Image result for science animated

Method for Complex Sugar:
First, put the sample onto the test tube
Second, put 2 drops of iodine

Result 1: The potato, bread and apply turned black when we put 2 drops of iodine, so it means they're complex sugar.

The glucose, egg, and milk didn't turn black. The milk stays white,  the egg slightly turned brown-ish, and the glucose also slightly
turned brown so it means these three foods are not complex sugar, they're simple sugar.

Method for Simple Sugar:
1st: Place about 2ml of the sample into the test tube and then add 5 drops of Benedict's Solution.
2nd: Heat with a Bunsen until it changes colour.

Result 2: Some of the foods became orange and some of them stay lblue. The glucose turned orange after the boiling, the apple turned orange after the boiling, the bread stayed blue at white-ish, the milk stayed white and nothing happens, and lastly the egg, it's now a bit cooked because of the boiling but it's blue.

This means that on this test the only foods that are simple sugar are
apple and glucose

Testing for Protein - the Biuret Test
1st: Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide.
2nd: Add 5 drops of copper sulfate.
3rd: Shake the test tube gently from side to side.

Result 3: Two of the foods are positive to protein this is the milk and the egg. The bread stays it's colour, the sugar remains blue, the Apple remains blue and the potato stays white

Conclusion: Hypothesis ✅
Discussion: I found out that my Hypothesis is right.
The experiment was really well done and I'd learned something new. We had tested 6/6 samples of food. From my hypothesis that I had written earlier, I got 90% percent of my Hypothesis right, I said that the apple will be a complex sugar. I'm right at that one, when we're doing the experiment, it turns that the apple is both complex and simple sugar. I learned a lot from this experiment. It was a cool and calm experiment.

Learning Reflection - Health

Learning Reflection
A conclusion on what the "Whare tapa wha" is and how it illustrates Hauora?
- Whare tapa wha is about is the 4 walls on a house/you, you need the whare tapa wha to be stabled because if one of the walls is not good, it will affect the 3 more walls and it will take you down.

How did you participate during this lesson?
- I participated okay in the lesson because I know I understand most of the topic and I can raise my hands up when the teacher is asking questions to the class.

What is the current state of your Hauora?
-My Hauora is okay.
- I know that I need to work on Taha whanau because sometimes I find talking to/ having a conversation to adults is hard.

Wonder - Film Notes | Writing

Wonder

Intro - Close up, spaceman jumps into the shot, slow motion shot to give us the feeling we are in space.
    • intro symbol of the astronaut helmet covers his face, represents the barrier August puts between himself and the world
    •  music - starts quite slow but the tempo and dynamics increase to build energy in the scene. We hear a radio of ground control talking to an astronaut.
    •  next is a tracking shot as we move away from the figure. It is now a boy in a helmet jumping on the bed.
    • Close-up shows us August 'reality' or view of the world but as we pull back we see the real world.
    • August talking narratively and talks about his life while showing some footage.
  • 1st narrator
    • Auggie
  • 2nd narrator
    • Via
  • 3rd narrator
    • Jack
  • 4th narrator
    • Miranda
  • Last narrator
    • Auggie
    • Quote = Dad/Nate: " It's like leading a lamb to the slaughter"
    • 2 mins - the building suspense as we still haven't seen the boys face. We don't know what's wrong but hints it's bad - hospital scene, helmet, tags, school convo, Auggies dialogue in the voice cover.
Star Wars - a symbol of Auggie wanting people to treat him normally - a safe place in the Star Wars people so no one stares at them.
    • Seen - Auggie introduces self, padawan braid,
    • Star Wars character Darth Sideuous used by Jullien to make fun of Auggie.
Quote = Summer: "When being given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind."

Halloween Scene - 42:56

  • Body language - change, now has head hed high, walking with a contidient stride, interacting with other
  • Music - Happy/Upbeat - monster mash, fast tempo, lots of energy.
    • When he hears jack saying "if I looked like him I'd kill myself" - music tempo gets slow, quiet dynamics to make us focus, use of diegetic sound - kids laughter.
  • Symbols - Halloween mask - physical/barrier between others and Auggie
Significant - We see Auggie lose faith in the idea of friendship - If Jack can be that mean behind his bach how can he trust others.

Links to the Theme - Popularity and acceptance we see this through Jack as he says what he knows Jullien wants to hear so he doesn't become the target/get picked on

Jacks Fight Scene - 1:06:00 - 1:08:00
  • Start an eye-level - mid/medium shot, makes us feel a part of the convo.
  • Sounds are diegetic
  • Low angle shot as the boys hit the ground, this makes the fight seems more dangerous. Moves to a close up the struggle.
  • Dutch tilt and low angle make Jack look more aggressive and violent.
  • Music - minor (sad), quiet dynamic - creates focus and intense, slow temp.
  • Shot in slow-mo so we see the event more clearly.
Significant - Shows the theme of popularity/acceptance. Jack has learnt from his mistake and is standing up for his friend.

The Nature Reserve Fight Scene - 1:29:00 - 1:32:00
  • During fight shots used to make Auggie and friends bigger - more powerful and the bullies weak and vulnerable.
  • Music has a fast tempo to built intensity.
  • Friendship - Auggie finally feels accepted  when the others boys - doesn't have to hide behind a mask anymore
Significant - Auggie has grown as a character, he is now willing to stand up for himself.

Kindness- respecting others, look after each other, speak nicely, include others.

  • Example 1 - Summer sits with August. This shows the theme of kindness because Summer left the kids who were saying mean things to go and sit with August who looked lonely. Kindness is important to the story overall because without it Auggie (August) will not build confidence, make friends and feel accepted.
  • Example 2 - Auggie shows kindness when he shares his answers with Jack. This links to the theme because Auggie sees someone in need, Jack isn't even his friend yet, but helps him anyway. This is important because it is the first step to enabling Auggie to make friends, being kind starts this friendship that will be important later in the film.
Importance of Family and Friendship - through this relationship Auggie and others learned the values of trust and self-confidence. They are less alone.
  • Example 1 - The scene where Miranda talks about spending Christmas with the Pullmans.
    • Links to theme - Miranda is happy and included by the Pullmans.
    • She is ignored/forgotten at home.
    • She realises that she misses having friends/family.
    • Important because makes Miranda recognise what she's lost/misses and she makes to reconnect with Via and the Pullmans.
  • Example 2 - The boys come to rescue Jack and Auggie.
    • Auggie is included, has friends and is feeling trust and self-confidence.
    • Ultimate example of acceptance and friendship, his classmates had his back without him asking. First time they treat him as an equal.
Being Kind vs Being Popular - doing the right thing even when your friends don't, others pressure you.
  • Example 1 - Julien, picks on Auggie in front of others =, Auggie is an easy target, it makes Julien look popular when the others laugh.
    • Links to theme - Julien chooses to be popular at the expense of others, chases to bully Auggie to seem popular.
    • Important because it shows choosing popular has negative outcomes. Julien eventually loses his friends, leave school and is unhappy. However, Jack, who choose kind has lots of friends, is happy and doesn't get kick out for bullying.
"When being given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind." - Summer

Maths Book | Reading

Hello everyone, today I'm gonna talk about the book that I'm reading this past few days.

This book is called "50 AMAZING THINGS KIDS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MATHS". I recommend this book to you guys, why? In this book, you can get a lot of information and facts about maths. I really love how the writer puts every single detail and information on every single topic.

Reading this book will make you love maths  "more" if you already love maths. This book gives me a lot of information about maths that I didn't know.

If you read this book, you will understand how maths work and how maths is everywhere.

Hurumanu PE | Fosbury Flop

Hello everyone, today in PE Hurumanu, we learned how to do a Fosbury Flop in high jump.

High Jump
Fosbury Flop
What is Fosbury flop? - The Fosbury Flop is a style used in the athletics event of high jump. It was popularized and perfected by American athlete Dick Fosbury, whose gold medal in the 1968 Summer Olympics brought it to the world's attention. Over the next few years, the flop became the dominant style of the event and remains so today.

It was fun trying a new skill that I learned. Each student in our has needed to try and use the skill. I got 1.45m high. Most of the class got lower than 1.40m, so I'm happy than I'm at above average.

1. Land with your arms and your feet facing up. Land on your back
2. When you leave the ground you must spin around and use your knee to turn.

About Me | Bio Poem

Hello everyone, in the past few days I'm writing about information about my self in a Bio Poem style.

Speaking of Bio Poem, what really is a Bio Poem?

Bio Poem (Biography Poem) bio poem is a poem that is written to describe a person, usually a fictional character or famous person. In this context, 'bio' is short for biography. ... A bio poem always has 10 lines, with each line revealing more information about the subject. These lines include the person's first name.

Here's an example of a Bio Poem (This is the Bio Poem that I made)

My Summer Holiday

Hello everyone, today in our ESOL is we need to write about what happened on my holiday.

In the 2nd day of January, we went to Nelson and Tasman. We camp at  Nelson for 2 days and 1 day at Abel Tasman, On the first day on Nelson we went to the city and the church. We took a lot of photos of the beautiful, peaceful city of Nelson. On the 2nd day/our last day on Nelson, we went to the centre of New Zealand, it was located there. It was on the top of the mountain, it is 20 minutes hike up to get to the top.

When we reach the top we were sooo tired, we could drink a whole bottle of water, but it is worth it because the view at the top is breathtaking. Just like the first day, we took a lot of photos. At the same day, we went to Tasman, it was 1 hour and 30 minutes drive to get there.

It was 6:30 when we arrived there and then we look for a place that we can camp. After we found a place to camp we went back to the city and bought some foods, water and souvenirs. The last day of our camping, we went to a beach in Tasman, we swam there for 6 hours, It was 4 pm when we started driving home. We arrived at home at 12 o’clock in the midnight.

When we got back I didn't really do a lot. What I did was just cook for our dinner, play video games like Mobile Legends, Clash Royale and more, talk to my friends through messenger, playing with my little sister, house chores, went shopping/groceries and that's all the things I remember of what I did on my holidays.

I also watched a bunch of movies like "Good Boys", "Cinderella", "43 Meters Down", "Stories to tell in the Dark".
